The majority of pictures that we frame fall into this category. There are many ways of framing prints, for example: you can frame them as they are, or add a single, double or treble mount before the frame.
A more unusual way of framing a print would be to varnish it and then place in a large frame to create an oil painting effect; this best suits old style prints.
There are many other ways of framing prints, which we would be happy to discuss in the shop.
Watercolours look best when mounted first before placing behind glass. We have many ideas on different ways to frame your watercolours and will be only to pleased to offer our advice or work together on your own ideas.
Oil paintings are generally framed as they are with no mounts or glass, often looking better in a heavy frame. Oils can be stretched on a wood frame prior to framing, or a more stable and long-term alternative is to stick the loose canvas onto a board to prevent the oil from working itself loose, and is not prone to dents or holes being accidentally made in the canvas.
Oil paintings should not be hung above sources of heat as this dries them out and could cause warp. The oil painting, once framed only then requires a coat of varnish every so often, the length of time depends on how dry it gets.

Whatever the size and whatever the shape, we can make up mirrors to your individual requirements with any frame to suit the decor of your home or office.

Framing material based pictures is a speciality of which we are proud. The secret of framing cross-stitch etc. is ensuring they are perfectly stretched to board beforehand, which we have many different methods of achieving. Once this is done it’s a simple procedure of framing using your choosen mounts and frame.

At Hertford Picture Framing we can frame most items with depth, for example football shirts, medals, cake decorations, dried flowers, insects, wasp nests, surgical screws, tankards and handcuffs to name just a few we have framed in the past.

For precious, valuable or sentimental items we can offer acid free mounts to protect your artwork. Also available is special glass, designed to filter out U.V. light, to prevent fading. Not cheap, but for an irreplaceable item, perhaps a must.

We will be pleased to quote for large quantity orders. We can supply prints framed to offices and hotels, and can offer a hanging service if desired. Left is an example of frames supplied to Hanbury manor Golf and Country Club. They show photos taken during the Golf Open, hosted at Hanbury manor.
